The Tui Mines.
PROPOSED WORK
At the last sitting of the Te Aroha Warden’s Court, before Mr Burgess, application was made for six months’ protection for the Hercules and Hercules Extended special claims (formerly Champion Lode and May Bell, Tui). Mr Gilchrist appeared for applicants. One of the owners, in reply to His Worship, said the ore was of a complex and refractory nature, containing galena, etc., and required special treatment. The ground had been well opened up, and samples sent to the Thames School of Mines. It is expected that the Ferguson’s smelting works, when completed, would be able to treat the ore successfully. Since taking over the property the owners had opened up the old level, taken out six tons of ore, and more dirt is being broken out, pending as to •which is the proper method of treatment. Assays made prove the ore to be payable. The ordinary battery treatment was useless, the ore being too refractory. The Warden said he would recommend the protection asked for.
