The General Manager of Railways (Mr Ronayue) and party arrived in Te Aroha yesterday by special train, and proceeded to Thames and Waihi. The party are making their annual visit of inspection of railways, stations, etc., and will return to Te Aroha by the express this morning. This will interest you. Ou Monday evening next the Te Aroha Gvnasium Club hold the first of a series of open nights in the Public Hall, and invite parents and those interested to put in an appe trance and see the members at work doing their exercises, etc.

attractive gatherings of the year will take place in the Public Hall on Wednesday next, Juno 3rd. A social is to be held under the auspices of ithe local Methodist Choir, at which some novel features of interest will be introduced. First there will be competitions amongst the ladies for first prize in plain and fancy scone making, also other branches of fancy cooking. These exhibits, we understand will be donated to the committee to supply a sumptuous supper at the conclusion of the. entertainment. The programme is to be mostly comp 'tition. Prizes will be offered for the following : Bed - making for men ; nail-driving for ladies ; hat trimming for men ; potato races for both ladies and gentlemen ; inpromptu speeches. In addition to the above, there will be songs and recitations, and some stirring glees by a combined choir, Such an opportunity for a pleasant evening’s amusement should not be missed by our young men and women. The proceeds are to defray expenses connected with the recent alteration to choir seats, and also to supply new music for the choir. Wc trust the residents of To Aroha will give such a worthy object their liberal

SometHing ought to be done towards thinning out the willows along the banks of the Waihou river. In places the branches on either side almost meet. Flood water cannot get away, consequently after very heavy rain the country adjacent to the river is inundated. This is indeed a serious matter.
