Te Aroha Jockey Club.

A GENERAL meeting of the above Club took place in the Palace Hotel on Tuesday evening last. The President (Mr 0. F. Pilling) occupied the chair, and there were also present Messrs A. W. Edwards, J. Rowe, P. Baine, J. B. Johnson, C. F. Spooner. F. Walker, and tin? Secretary (Mr A. S. Maokay). The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. —Day of Meeting.— A good deal was said concerning the advisability or otherwise of changing the date of meeting. Mr Pilling took exception to the way in which the date of the race meetings had been changed from time to time. He contended nothing could be gained by that sort of thing. He had no objection to changing the date to a more suitable one but considered a good date should be fixed on and adhered to. It was eventually decided on the motion of Mi 1 Johnson, seconded by Mr Rowe that future meetings of the Club be held on Miners’ Union Day and the day following. The Secretary read the balance-sheet, which showed the Club to be in a- slightly better position than heretofore. The balance - sheet, as iread, was adopted, and arrangements made for the payment of out-standing accounts. Members were of opinion that a proper set of books should be kept, so that the Secretary could tell at _ a glance—and give information respecting any of tho accounts, etc.,—-ivhou appealed to by members. Resolved that uew books be opened as soon as possible.

Hurdles.—

Mr Walker drew attention to the way in which the hurdles laid been knocked about by the Show people, and considered they should pay for same. Tho Secretary said that a Committee from the To Aroha A. and 11. Society consisting of Messrs Annan, Thomas and Laruoy, had been appointed to moot the Club re coining (o a settlement in this matter. , It was resolved on the motion of Mr Pilling, seconded by Mr Spooner, that an account for seven hurdles, at l,s (id each, be sent, to the Society Before dispersing members spoke of the excellent manner in which the secretary hud carried out his duties, and regretted id« approaching departure front the disti let.
