The first of a series of monthly progressive bridge evenings, inaugurated by a committee of Te Aroha ladies, was held in the Band room on Friday evening last, about twenty players of both sexes engaging in this fascinating game. Play continued from 8 p m till 11 and a most enjoyable evening was spent. The ladies’ prize for the highest scorer was won' by the Mayoress, Mrs R. L. Somers, anc. consisted of a very pretty cut glass and silver butter-dish, and jam dish to match. The gentleman’s prize, a purse and pocket-book combined, fell to Mr F. Pavitt, jun. We wish these energetic ladies every success in their efforts to cater for the amusement and recreation of bridge players during the coming winter.
