Te Aroha AND Ohinemuri News.
SATURDAY, MAY 9, 1908. TE AROHA.
This above all —to thine own self be true , ind it must follow as the night the day Thou canst not then be false to any man Shakespeare.
Te aroha is well-known to be one of the beauty spots of New Zealand, it combines the limitless vision of unbroken plains; combined with mountain aspects of no mean order. The Mineral Baths are of the soft curative order, mild and beneficant in their action the kindly yet warm waters of this favoured region echo — Te Aroha.
Who indeed has tasted of these mineral waters of life without personal benefit. Crippled and suffering humanity alike reply that they are satisfied with the goodness of these waters.
When an enlightened Government thinks fit to touch the surroundings of Te Aroha with the Magic Wand of £ s dwe will then see the superb mountain slopes arrayged with the best of forest culture. The broken fences and the unequal places will be built aright to a good end. But who is it that opposes Thee! Oh Te Aroha ; in all thy progres, if not thy twin - brother Rotorua ? Even so. Well, why should Botorua enjoy. the full monoply of all the good things of £ Bd. It is a mystery that such should be. For whereas Te Aroha, female-like, stands solid on the good ground of regular sufficient strength, yet Botorua is a vague master of turbulent and angry strength, too energetic in its angry spasms of forceful energy. The Powers that be, neglect Te Aroha; forgetting that our mineral waters cure much that Botorua never could! Just so. Nor need we wonder that the stolefi waters of Te Aroha go to reinvigorate the world’s health seekers at Botorua. But the day will come when, Cinderella-like, Te Aroha will put on the best garb of approval—when the Tourist Department comes to a due sense of Te Aroha’s worth. Nay ; not so ! but when justice is done to this place, that is all.
If some of the surplus moneys of the State were equitably used to test the refractory ores in this district, we might long ago have enjoyed means of wealth at present dormant. Allis fair they say, in love and wvr, therein is the only solution of this thusness.
