Hockey Club Social.
The annual social of the Ladies’ Hockey Club took place in the Public Ha|ll, ou "Wednesday night. It was a great success, there being a record attendance The hall was very prettily decorated with flags, foliage, and flowers. The music for the dancing was first-class, being supplied by Mclnmau’s orchestra. Extra waltzes were played, by Misses Teague and Bossons. Mr Geo. Deverell gave every satisfaction as M.C. Two very interesiing events of the evening were presentations to Mr F.JWild and Miss E. Hare. Mr R. L.' Somers on behalf of the ladies’ hockey club, presented Mr Wild with a handsome travelling companion, and ih doing so said Mr Wild had spent a good deal of time in teaching the ycung ladies laßt year, as it was their first attempt at hockey, and they felt that they would like to give him some little token for the kindness he ha<V bestowed on them. Before presenting Mr Wild with the gift, Mr Somers gave that gentleman a neat littte lecture with regard to the use of the articles, contained in the case, which, comprises a looking-glass, razor, tooth brush, hair brush, etc. Mr Wild responded in a few wellchosen words and wished the dub every success in the coming season. The presentation to Miss Hare, of a hockey stick, was made by Mr Thos. Mclndoe, on behalf of the club, for her very skilful play, and regular attendance at both the matches and practices. Mr Geo.' Deverell replied on behalf of Miss Hare.
The Committee entrusted with the carrying out of the arrangements proved themselves past masters at the work, and are to be congratulated upon the success which attended their efforts. As usual the Secretary (Miss Hare) worked hard, as did the Captain of the Club (Miss Eileen Ryan). Where all worked hard it would be inviduous on our part to select any member of the Committee for special mention. Mr Mclndoe intimated that Mr Gilmour intended to give a gold medal to the best player during the present season. Refreshments were handed round during the evening. Dancing continued until the small hours of the morning, when a most enjoyable evening was brought to a close.
