It was ' an interesting sight to see the spectators, and these 136 players all intent on the game, making the hall look quite an animated pioture when Mies Manning rang the bell at the conclusion of a game and the army of , assistants who stamped a sign on your card for every win, rushed round about their business. At half-past 10, long before interest had began to wane, the bell rang for the last game and then the cards were collected, to ' see who were fortunate enough to win the various prizes. Whilefthis was being done supper was handed round and done justice to by those present. In conclusion he thanked all those present for their attendance, j He thought the Fire Brigade deserved to be well supported and was pleased to see so many present helping in such a good cause. The supper arrangements were in good hands, a strong ladies committee headed by the Mayoress, Mrs R.L. Somers, attending to this most im- j portant detail. j The hall was then cleared for dancing, which was indulged in with great spirit until an early hour. AU present seemed to have had a real good evening’s amusement. Excellent dance music was provided by the Te Aroha Trio. The success of the whole evening was greatly due to the harmonious working of the Brigade Committee .' Messrs Pilkington (Gapt.), J. Jennings, D. Wallace, J. Johnson, W. Bell, 0. Gribb, J. Walsh, and R. Whitehead (secretary). The latter faithfully carried out the onerous, duties of his office, being the right man in the right plase. The Brigade will benefit to the extent of £lO, which is very encouraging to the men showing that Te Aroha is not alto gether indifferent to the work being done by them.
