Borough Council

The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Council was held in the Council Chambers last evening. Present : His Worship the Mayor (R. L. Somers, Esq.), Crs. Annan, Devey, Jackson, and Spence. 1 The minutes of the previous me ing were read and confirmed. Inward and outward correspondence dealt with. —Tui Park Reserve— F Pavitt, surveyor, advised that he had completed the survey of the Tui Park Reserve, and stating that as the work was so much rougher than he had expected, he asked that Council augment the sum agreed upon by £5. The Mayor explained that the Land’s Department were to pay the £25/ anything further would have to be paid by the Council. Councillors were of opinion that Mr Pavitt had had a very rough job, and was justly entitled to the extra £5. It was resolved on the motion of Cr. AnnaD, seconded by Cr. Devey, that the request be acceded to. It was pointed out that the land in question was within the Borough. The Clerk had written accordingly. —Request for Endowment. —

The Prime Minister (Hon. J McGowan) wrote under date, 9th of April, with reference to the request made by the deputation which waited on him on the 11th of February last at Te Aroha, in reference, to purchase of the remainder of Lipseytown, and the transfer to theAroha Borough Council,-,-as an endowment, of certain- - 'lands purchased from Mr Ga-An. The first mentioned has and it does appear that any further steps! can be taken in the matter a'ti present. Regarding the endowment the Minister stated that the is outside the Borough area, r-ind therefore he regretted that the r/equest could not be granted.

—-Hospital and Charitable Fees.— I The Secretary of the Waikato l-lospital and Charitable Aid Board advised that the sum of £ll7 16s, amount of allocation due by the Borough for the year ending 3lst March, 1909, became due on the 15th. April, 1908. The appointment is as follows :—Waikato, £1,213 15s; Piako, £1,166 13s ; Waipa, £973 13s? Raglan, £93214s ; Hamilton, £313 10s : Cambridge, £l6l 9s; Kawhia, £l2B 10s ; Te Aroha, £ll7 16s. Total, £5,000. —New Sections.— It was mentioned that the Government had secured the paddocks near the river, opposite Mr Lavery’s residence, and that they would be thrown open for selection at no distant date.—lt was resolved that the Warden be interviewed re same, and that his attention be drawn to the amount of speculation carried on in sections within the Borough. —Damaged Footpath.—

Cr Spence explained the cause of the damage done to the footpath.—lt was resolved that the owner (Mr Calder) of Section i block 2, be requested to put path in order. [Balance of report held over.]
