MORRINSVILLE

(Own Correspondent.) FOOTBALL MEETING. The annual meeting of the local football Club was 'hel‘l in the Nottingham Castle Hotel daring the week, there was a small attendance. Mr Geddes was voted to the chair. Minutes of previous annual meeting read and confirmed. The report showed tnat the senior team bad only won one match, while tho junior team had won the cup in their competition scoring 43 points to none against being unbeaten. The balance sheet showed a debit balance of £1 16s lid. The report and balance sheet was adopted, A member prestnt spoke strongly of the practice of members in not paying their subscription. Decided that the eluh be continued. The following officers were elected : Patron, MrW. J Aitken; President, Mr F. J. Marshall ; vice - presidents, Mr C. Manuel, Mr J. Gamey, and Mr J. M. Clifford. Mr Spargo being unable to continue as secretary, W. J. Neels was elected to the position. Committee, Messrs R. Cornish, H. Page, W. Hogg and Kelly with captain and vice captain. Delegates to Piako Rugby, Union, Messrs Win ter e, Page, and Kelly. Subscription was fixed at 3s 6d. Hearty rotes of thanks were accorded tho outgoing officers, especially Mr Spargo who has aoted as Secretary and Treasurer for a number of seasons. . Tho usual compliment to the chairman concluded the meeting, TOWN BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Town Board was held in the Council Chambers on Thursday evening. Present: Messrs Allen, in the ohair, Pickett, Parlour, Marshall, Manuel and Gammer. Minutes of previous meeting read and confirmed. Outward correspondence approved. Accounts considered, Clerk’s action in dealing with same was approved. A letter was received from J. A. Young stating that he held the Humane Society’s medal end certificate, for presentation to Mrs Macfarlane, which had to be presented in Public. It was decided to thank Mr Young for his action in the matter, and to approach Mr Scholium who is organising an enter* tainment in aid of a local institution, with the view of having the presentation made on that occasion. Letter from Treasurer, re the grant for drainage works was deffered pending a reply from the Premier re the grant promised. The action of the Committee whi *h conferred with the Piako County Council was approved. Decided to call applications locally for the position of clerk, the present appointment lapsing before next meeting, applicants to state salary required. Left with Chairman to deal with same. Deoided to bank with the Bank of New Zealand, arrangements to be made for an advance of £SO, members giving personal guarantee. Decided to write to health department re fumigating premises in connection) with the re. cent infectious diseases outbreak. Decided that Chairmrn and Clerk supply information for next m'eeting, in connection with having all roads and streets formed a uniform width. The Clerk was also instructed to write to various Town Boards for copies of bye-laws. Derided to strike -a rate of one penny half-penny in the pound. Clerk to take the necessary steps. The matter of conferring with the Bank of New Zealand in connection with the unformed roads was considered by the Board in Committee. This concluded the business.

SojSQ cricket j match The cricket match, Hamilton v. Morrinsville, played here on Good Friday, resulted in a win for Hamilton by 138 runs. The match on Saturday, Matgere v. Morrinsville, ended in a draw. Mangere made 131; Morrinsville 112 for 8 wickets when time was called. A feature of the match was the splendid partnership of Norman Clifford and E. Snell, who were unbeaten after being at the wickets for over an hour, despite frequent changes of bowling. Detailed, report will appear in next issue.
