(Own Correspondent.) OUR LIBRARY,
A ’meeting of the Library Committee was held in the Library on Thursday night. Mr W. C. Pickett in the chair, There were also present Messrs J. T Spargo, W. Neels, and W. Weekes. Minutes of previous meeting read and confirmed. The balance-sheet to the end of 1907 showed a credit balance of £3 2s 6d ; subsidy for the year was £9 4s 2d. There are 86 subscribers on the books, The report and balance-sheet was adopted. Mrs Weekes tendered her resignation whioh was received with regret, members expressing their appreciation of the good work done by Mrs Weekes It was decided to appoint Miss Coleman at a remuneration of £5 per annum, and donate Mrs Weekes £3 3s as a slight recompense for her time and trouble, It was decided to ask the Town Board to take over the control of the Library. The Building fund now Btands at £64 4s lid, A vote of thanks to the Chairman and to the Secretary, Mr Weekes, concluded the business. INCIPIENT FIRE.
A.n incipient fire took place here shortly ofter one o’clock on Thursday afternoon, in a loft on the] property of Mr F. JMarshall, and occupied by Mr C. Shirley* The fire was discovered before it had got mudh of a hold, the only damage being the bedding clothes, and some personal effects, beyond charring the flooring boards, Mr Shirley being the loser to the extent of about £B. The fire was supposed to have been caused by the sun’s rays striking on a piece of plate glass on the bad. r
