Landing of the Pilgrim. Fathers.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
NEW YORK, Yesterday.
President Roosevelt, in laying the corner stone of a monument at Princetown to commemorate the landing of the Pilgrim Fathers, stated that the Government ought to control railroad corporations like they supervised national banks. He was determined that none shall amass great fortunes by special privilege in chicanery, wrong doing, or the use of a fortune for anti-social purposes. Something must be done to secure the conviction of trust managers in criminal prosecutions, thus stamping out the .evil admitted. The financial disturbance in Willstreet was partly attributable to the Government’s determination to punish the malefactor of great wealth who brought about financial stress in order to discredit the Government policy. It was hopeless for them to expect a reversal of the policy during his tenure.
