Ladies' Hockey Match.

WAIHOTT 2 TE AROHA NIL.

The return match was played in *be Pound paddock yesterday afternoon. Being favoured with a perfect day, there was a large crowd of spectators present, including a number from Waihou. The fair sex attended in large numbers and took a great interest in the match, which was very willing from the start, to the finish. Two or three of the players received cracks with the sticks that will remind them of the match for days to come. Waihou as usual had too much combination for the local girls, though the two tries obtained should never have been allowed to take place, the Te Aroha forwards looking at the ball instead of trying to block it. The Waihou left wing - played a great game, and the visitors taking advantage of the Te Aroha captain being ont of her place fed their left all the time, and the result was that Te Aroha were defending a great deal of the time. The Te Aroha captain made a great mistake in changing her team about after the match started. It is no use putting a forward fullback on the day of a match, as it is only courting disaster. For Te Aroha, Misses Hare (left wing) and Ryan (full-back) stood out by themselves, while Miss McKenzie, centreforward, also played a real good game. Miss Garrett (goalkeeper) defended in % workmanlike manner. Te Aroha seemed disorganised in the first spell, but gathered combination in the second and made a much better game of it. Te Aroba will greatly miss the services of Miss McKenzie, who has been transferred to Rotorua, and a fresh arrangement of the team should be made. We think the captain should take centreforward, and Miss A. Hare take the right wing, with Miss Garrett as centre-half. Waihou’s goals were obtained by Misses M. Walker and Burke. Dr.' Brydeu capably officiated as referee. Afternoon tea was provided at the conclusion of the match, by the Te Aroha ladies.
