WELLINGTON, Thia Day.
The Minister for Lands has issued a circular at the institution of the Lands and survey Department to discontinue the use of the term middle Island.
In reply to a deputation from the West Coast and Nelson, who urged the pushing on of railway lines in those districts, the Premier spoke very plainly. To do what everyone asked, a million loan would be only a drop in the bucket. The main railway work in hand was the northern trunk and not till that'was out of the way could any subsidiary lines receive attention. > Promises made years ago by Sir Julius Vogel or others, could not now be considered. The Government had to be guided by circumstances as they found them now. The Wellington Council of Churches passed a resolution protesting against the actions for .restitution of conjugal rights, being made as short cut to divorce, and demanding an amendment of the. law. Figures wired quoted to show that in ten years divorces have jumped from 36 to 126 per year. Ministers were besieged with deputations yesterday, mostly on Tariff matters.
