BISHOP’S STRANGE EXPERIENCE.
Bdshop Wallis’ recent expedition: to the worker© on the North Island Main Trunk’line must be regarded as rather a novelty for 1 a bishop. Though accompanied everywhere by torrents of rain, and shut out from a single glimpse of the mountain®, he took back a favourable impression, and is already wishing for some cause to repat the experience. he enjoyed Hiejgg a ballast train excatemen»<ritew aj three miles from breaking, the journey at ' Waiouru to hold a service and rough it for thle night. Ohakune, Raetihi. and! Rlaurimu were visited by driving, and services held. A Saturday night social at Rauirimu was a great success, and a children's service the next day was made interesting by baptisms, a strange scene in the midst of the wild group of weather beaten men, canvas tents, wooden huts and manuku scenery. Though the bishop was much impressed by the sterling character of the meni of this pioneer community, he saw also some of their pastime©. They played two-up openly, unawed . by the gaze of a bishop.
