New Plymouth Technical School.

SPEECH BY MR EOWLDS, (By Telegraph—-Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. On Thursday the Hon, G. Fowlds opened the New Plymouth Technical School. The building is of brick, erected by the Taranaki Education Board, partly out of a £2700 Departmental grant, and the remainder being r tised from local bodies’contributions. There was a large assemblage of the general public, and addresses were d livered by the Minister, the chairman of the Technical Committee, Messrs H. 01; ey, M.H.R., W. E. Spencer (edi f or -J the School Journal, and until iceotly director of technical education Imre), the chairman of the High School Board, and the Mayor of-New I'iymouth. . There are already 191 srubnts, exclusive of 70 teachers attending Saturisy classes, and 600 in the school classes. Mr Fowlds, in his remarks, said that modern educational methods endeav ured to make instructiion fit the <■: i cumstances and life of the pupi's.
