Dairying in Matamata.
CO-OPERATION REJECTED.
A meeting of those interested in the dairying industry at Matamata, was held in the woolshed on Thursday, there being fully fifty settlers present. Mr E. C. Banks was elected to the chair, and stated the object of the meeting, which was to decide whether they would go into eo operation or remain as they are at present, and dispose of their milk to the Proprietary Company of Auckland.
Five directors and the Secretary of the Te Aroha District Co-operative Dairying Company attended, and explained the benefits arising from co-operation, and assured the Matamata settlers that they would be glad to join in with them in the event of their deciding for co-opera tion, or if they decided to form a company of their own they would give them all the assistance they could. A number of questions were asked and answered by the directors, who then withdrew.
A long discussion then ensued, and it was decided to take a ballot on the question, every man being allowed a each cow, and the result was in favour of continuing with the Proprietary Company by a majority of 200 votes. The meeting concluded with votes of thanks to the Chairman and visitors from Te Aroha.
