[To the Editor.] Sib,— There has been copsiderable objection to the 10s registration fee for terrier dogs, charged by the Piako County Council. I think the following answer to a corresponnent (“ Weekly News”) shows " that the Council made an illegal charge “ I am not a farmer but I have a a garden and can claim the right of keeping a terrier to catch any bunny that might roan into it.” “T. 8.,” Cambridge, asks: “Is a terrier dog kept by a farmer to destroy rabbits liable to taxation, and if so, to what amount ?” “ The dog must be registered and a registration fee paid, but the fee when the dog is kept by a farmer to destroy rabbits is an exceptionally low one. It is fixed by the County Council, but must not be over 2s 6d, and may be as low as Is.” What has the Piako County Council to say to this ? —I am, ete., J. J. Keaney, Aratiatia.
