MORRINSVILLE.

i (Our Own Coirespondent.) ! The footballer’s social, which eventui ated on Friday last proved very enjoyable, there being a very fair attendance. A committee of ladies looked after the supper arrangements which was a guarantee of the excellence thereof, and it is indeed hard to say what would often be dene, were it not for the kindly aid always so freely rendered by the gentler sex in connection with social matters. ; Messrs Hinton, sen., and J. Layne carried out the duties of M.C’s. in a satisfactory manner, Mr J. Simpson, in a like manner undertaking the duties of I secretary. During the evening songs were rendered by Messrs Markwick, Love and others, while Mr Morel gave a very creditable exhibition of the sword dance, for which he was much applauded. Mr J. J, Watts (piano), assisted by Mr M. .Seales (comet) supplied excellent music, and a most enjoyable dance came to aeon elusion shortly after 2 a.ra. Mr A. J. Leach, who for a number of years has resided at A nnandale, and has been connected with the local Wesleyan Lnurch m the capacity of local preacher, left on Friday together with his wife and family for the Kaipara district to which he has been appointed home missionary. -Before leaving, a number of the residents members of the Wesleyan body took the opportunity to make Mr Leach a presentation of a purse of soveieigns as a slight token of the esteem in which he was held, Messrs Gant and Best, who made the presentation, wished him success and God’s speed in his new sphere. Mr Leach feeling responded. Properties continue to change hands at advanced prices. Mr Hewitt has disposed of Ins farm to a Southern gentlemaa, and a local resident has purchased four sections from the bank. The appeal case Assets Board v. the Saleyards Com* bine has been settled out of court, the bank agreeing to take a reasonable offer for the property, it being the intention of the purchasers to take down the yards and offer the timber, posts and gates at the next local sale, when no doubt there will be a good demand, as the material is highly suitable for farm use. A general meeting of the shareholders of the Morrinsville saleyards is to be held on Saturday next, it being about a year since the yards were opened. r he approach to the temporary bridge at the school, is badly in need of attention, otherwise it will soon be impassable, especially if the weather we have been experiencing during the past week continues,

There is a good muster at the readingroom in the evenings, which‘is a practical demonstration that it was time for sr.ch an institution being organised in <he town, and credit is due to Mr Weeks for the interest he takes in the readingroom and library.
