Auckland Winter Show.

BIG EXHIBITION NEXT MONTH. CARNIVAL WEEK IN THE CITY. Commencing on May 22nd, and. continuing for four days, at the Drill Hall, Aupkland, there will be an exhibition of the greatest interest to all residents of the province. The development of the resources of Auckland has latterly progressed so marvellously and country districts have flourished so well, that the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral As felt the time had arrived when, In. the interests of the country, a winter show should be held. The movement rapidly found favour, and the project has so grown that the display will now take the form of an Auckland provincial exhibition. Several very attractive , features are being pro Tided : in the first place thePe will he country or district courts, in which each district entering will arrange the various products, natural and manufactured which are obtained or produced within its borders. The educational value of such courts can scarcely be overestimated, and at Southern shows they excite the Is&ciiPsfc enthusiasm amongst the various districts, and strong committees are formed to arrange the exhibits. The As sociation will pr@vide ■ the stands, and entrance in this class is free, while handsome money prizes are offered for the best courts : there is also a thirty guinea challenge shield, offered by the Farmers’ Freezing Company, in the district courts Section, and it is expected that the various disiricts will come forward with striking examples of what can be done in rural Auckland. The scale of points has been arranged so as to give the greatest possible opportunity to each district.

' A great feature will be the display of dairy produce from aH parts of the province, and also from other parts of New Zealand, and the show of butter wiH be the largest ever seen in the colony, Space will not permit to deal with the vast variety of attractions for the winter show carnival week in Auckland City, and they can be but barely touched upon. In connection with the Show, arrange ments are bring made for a court of Maori arts and crafts ; a court for South Sea Island curios, in which it is expected that some very rare and valuable specimens will be shown; a very large and comprehensive agricultural department court, in which will be shown grasses manures, shelter trees, flax in all stages of treatment, vines, fruits, etc.; and a freezing industry bay. showing frozen nmtton, Jamb and, beef, chilled fruit, frozen fish and game, bouquets of flowers

m ice, etc., in addition to various sections for fruit, grain, seeds, flax and other products; valuable collections of kauri

gum are also to be displayed, f In connection with the Show, which 3 wiH probably be opened by the Hon. i tiie Minister for Lands, there will be a series of conferences with special adt dresses by exports on dairying, fruitgrowing, flax fibre and other agricul- [ tural industries. i Various trade displays wiU be made in the ball and in the grounds adjoining, and if space wiU permit, an exhibition of manufactures of Auckland province will be made by the Manufacturers’ Association. The Show will have the greatest ] possible interest for country visitors, and j it is expected that as cheap excursion fares will be arranged, it will probably j be the occasion for one of the largest gatherings of country residents and people from other parts of the colony that Auckland city has ever known. I Special Cup football matches will pro- | bably be arranged during the time of the Show, and the theatrical agents are providing special features likely to at- j

3 tract the country visitors, with a view to i 3 making a regular carnival week of it. j
