great loss of life. SEVERAL TOWNS DESTRCfc^. A disastrous earthquake has occurred in Central America and Mexico, involving an ac.rea of about bUU miles, chiefly on the Pacific coast. The towns of Chalpancingo, Chilapa, Ometepec and Ejutla have suffered severely, a? well as the coast from Acapulco to Salina drug. The Colima volcano, thought to be extinct, has been active for four days and is the centre of activity, the disturbance reaching 300 miles on either side, . ~ Deaths are reported.by Association cable from Mexico this morning to number GOO.
