Correspondence.
;Ve do not hold ourselves responsible for the opinions expressed by our correspondents. [To the Editor.] Sik, —I feel compelled to write a short letter (if-you will allow me space), deal ing with a matter which was brought under my notice, through one of the canvassers of the opposition paper. .1 happened to over-hear the said canvasser and one of the Te Aroha tradesmen, discussing the pros, and cons, of your paper. The former, after pulling it to pieces as much as possible, turned to your “ Temperance column,” with a sneering remark as to “ what you got for that insertion.” But he struck the wrong man, and was pulled up short, and asked whether in his opinion was it not a groat deal better to write a column on Tern per anoe, than waste a whole column advertising Dawson’s whisky. Well sir—l congratulate you on the stand you take, and I feel sure if you continue to stick to your guns, and not be willing to sel ! the tone of your paper for a few inches of public house rubbish, you will get the support of all the right-thinking men of this township. At the last general election great things were promised by certain people interested in the Trade, if another paper started. What do we find ? About two inches advertisement for each hotel—almost enough to pay for wrappers !-1 am etc , St li ANGER.
