THE “SINN FEIN” MOVEMENT.
With reference to’the serious rioting ■which has occurred at Elphin, Roeooimmon County, owing to the police fpattivesnting of the lUnited Irish League, it’was cabled the other day that the managers of the “S'inn Pedn” movement are virulently boycotting the forthcoming International Exhibition at Dublin, because it is organised -by Lady Aberdeen’s Royal Irish Industries Association. “Sinn Fein” a phrase equivalent to “Ourselves alone” is, it may be mentioned), the watchword of the Gaelic League, founded in 1893. The objects of the League, of which Dr. Douglas Hyde, the,well known Irish historian, poct ; and . ioik-lprist, has been president since; its inception, are stated briefly as follows: “It. is prepairing the mind of the country for that supreme effort’ which will lead to the final triumph of the Gael Although a nonpolitical organisation and acting strictly within tht existing law, it is steadilv creating'the conditions that will make a free Ireland poeßible.”
