Tramway Accident at Christchurch.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Tibia Lay. A serious tramway accident occurred a few minutes before 9 o’clock last night, the victim being Benjamin Filkington, who for forty years was stationmaster at Christohurch, but retired some time ago. Mr Filkington was returning from town to his home at Richmond, on the steam tram and appears to have either fallen or jumped off before a stoppage of the car had been effected, and the wheels of the car then passed over his feet., Mr Pilkington was immediately taken to the hospital where it was found that an amputation of both feet was imperative. I The operation was performed but the patient’s condition afterwards • was grave in the extreme.
