Te Aroha Agricultural and Horticultural Society.
A meeting of the committee of the Te Aroha Agricultural and Horticultural Society was held on Saturday evening lasi'. Present: T. Bellamy (Chairman), J. B. Thomas, T. Gavin, W. Hetherington, E. A. Larney, W. Taylor, F. Wild (secretary.) Minutes of the previous meeting were reau. confirmed. The following gentlemen were proposed by Mr J. B. Thomas as members: —Chas Wallis, S. Bellamy, R. Farrow, J. B. Grant, J. Gleeson, Knight, E. A. May, H. McKenzie, F. J. Morrow, P. A. Swnev, W. F. Stark, W. F. Twaddell, F. West, W. Whelan, C. J. Stark, C. J. Kulitz, S. S. Driver, 11. Mary church, and Hartley. These were all duly accepted. Mr Bellamy moved a vote of thanks to Mr Thomas for his good work in obtaining new members for the Society. This was seconded by| Mr Taylor and carried unanimously. Mr Gavin read the report of the committee appointed to revise the horticultural portion of the schedu’e. Mr Gavin proposed that) a third prize should be given for the colled ion of pot plants, and also that tl e first and second . prizes should be higher than heretofore. Seconded by Mr Thomas and carried. It was decided that the collection of button holes should consist of twelve. It was decided to add a third prize to the shower bouquet class. Mr Gavin said that since the Poultry Expert’s lecture a special interest was being taken in poultry, and he proposed that several classes should be added to this section. In the killed and dressed fowl class, it was decided that the words ‘ 1 most suitable, for export” be added, and further that a pair of any other breed should be added to the class. In the needlework class it was decided that work shown must not have been exhibited previously at the Society’s show and must be the work of the exhibitor. A third prize will be added to the competition for best nightdress made by girl under 17. In the cookery, the third prize for the currant case was raised. The revising committee for tlio agricultural section of the schedule recommended that: Entry fees in thoroughbred classes he raised from 2s (id and 5s to 5s and 10s. That the pair of buggy horses he not restricted in height. —That a class ‘ ‘ host 3-year-old draught, heavy gelding or marc,” be added.—That class 32 “Best mare with two of her progeny,” ho struck out. —That best spring cart built by Ellis and Co., and best buggy built by Ellis and Co. classes be s'.ruck out. —That champion certificates be issued for thoroughbred stallions and draught stallions, and best thoroughbred mare and best draught mare.—That no charge be made in the exhibits of sheep and pigs.That' a special prize be offered for the best dairy cow on the test, only the prize-winning cows needing to be brought to tbe show ground. Spcyed or webbed cows will not be eligible for this competition. These recommondgtions were adopted, and after discussion on several other matters the meeting doted. The Annual Show will be held on Thursday, February Bth, 190 G.
