FRUIT AND PRODUCE MARKETS. Fkiday. The local fruit and produce markets have been fairly active during the past week, and supplies in some instances were heavy and beyond requirements, while in standard lines they have been much shorter, in potatoes very little business was done, although supplies all round were short, the high prices ruling, having the effect of restricting consumption. There was a slight in> crease in the supply of new potatoes but many of those sent in. on account, of growers having been compelled to dig, were on the small side; hence the prices of better samples were lower than last week. The supplies of onions were exhausted at last week’s prices, and higher values will probably rule for the shipment coming from San Francisco by the mail steamer, Sonoma, due at Auckland on Monday. It is not expec'ed that any onions from I Sydney will reach this market until the end of November. Esrgs were in supply about equal to last week, without alteration in va'ues. Bacon and barns were slow of sale, and the market continues overstocked with inferior and second-class qualities. Cheese was practically unprocurable. Id poultry the high prices ruling for the past few weeks had the effect of large numbers of ordinary fowls being sent forward, and there was a general re diidion in prices. Young pigs came to hand in good numbers to a strong demand.
