Te Aroha Angling Club.

A meeting of the Te Aroha Angling Club was held in the Secretary’s office, Town Hall huildings on Tuesday evening last,, the President, Dr Kenny in the chair. Mr C. Wallis, the Club’s delegate for the Auckland Acclimatisation Society was also present. A letter was received through Mr Wallis, with ‘ a cheque enclosed as a grant towards the Club, and to be applied by the Club at its, discretion for the sup.pression of poaching It was resolved that £3 he spent in the purchasing of licenses, to be issued to three gentle' men who are living near the river between Mangaiti and Matamata, and who have expressed their willingness to act as honorary rangers, and further that 6d per head be paid for all shags between the before-mentioned places. It was reported to the meeting that two shag rookeries were know to exist near the Matamata bridge: the Secretary offered to find out when the young birds were fledged, to iuform the Club,, and arrange for a party of four to go up and wipe .out the birds. Dear Sir, —The Department is about to take steps in the direction of procuring sporting specimens of the best descriptions fer Exhibitions abroad, and also for the International Exhibition at Christchurch next year. I am therefore directed to make every effort to secure presents of big trout specimens for the Department, for this purpose. I shall be glad if you will lay this request before the membere of your Club, and any unattached sportsmen, se that, if possible, the Te Aroha district may show up favourably with others, and possibly surpass them. Messrs Wallis and Wild were empowered to get leaflets printed showing the advantages of Te Aroha from a fisherman’s point of view, Some discussion t« ok place as to the advisability of building fine wire netting fish weirs in s .me suitable creek to prevent the fry from escaping into the river, and to check eels and large fish from coming up, Mr Wallis reported that Mr Mace of Mangaiti had offered to assist in building such weirs, and further to, attend to same if Installed in the Mangaiti creek.
