'■■ ■■• -■■■•■■ - - ■■ , ■ ; , Tli o monthly mee ing of the above committee, was held in the school , house on Wednesday, Oct. 18th. Present: Messrs O’Donoughue (chairt man), J. Timmins, J. Tretheway, J. I Morrow, and R. Johnson (secretary). Minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. ; Correspondence was dealt with as fellows:— ■jyL From J. Cummings, stating that as he had now left Waihou, he could not give satisfaction in cleaning out houses. The secretary stated that he had cleaned them on several occasions, but would like the c .mmittee to get some responsible person to clean same. Agreed that Mr Timmins attend to this matter. From the Education Board, enclosing voting papers and copy of sections 18, 19 and 20 of the Education Act, 1904, to be observed by the committee in exercising their vote for one member on the Education Board, to fill the vacancy caused through the resignation of Mr R. Hobbs, Esq.— Received. .The following accounts were passed for payment:—D. Russell, school cleaning and stationery, £3 7s 6d ; J. Cummings, cleaning outhouses for ! quarter, £1 ; Cooper and Co, school stationery, £1 12s 7d; Buchan, Bas-

kett and Co, repairs to school and swing. One item on the latter account was considered excessive, viz.: 6ft chain with links, etc., ss. The committee were of opinion that this was overcharged and the secretary wds instructed to interview this firm and request a reduction. Mr D. Russell, head teacher, explained that as he had received communications lrom the Education Board r » demonstrations to be mido in connection with the school or. Trafalgar Day. he suggested that s-s many of th 9 committee as possible attend same. Resolved that the chairman and head teacher address the children. Mr Russell explained the working of the New Syllabus, and stated that the annual examination had taken place that day and he was very pleased to say that only one child hat l failed out of the whole school. Thu was expressed to be highly satisfac- . tory. Mr Tretheway brought up the matv ter of technical education and train f-r s to same, and informed the meet’ ing that as at present arranged, tho scholars could not travel on the raiiwvy to the school at the Thames free of charge, outside of Hikitia. Mr Russell stated that he was at present iu communication with Mr George on this matter. It was proposed by the secretary aud seconded by the chairman, that failing Mr Russell’s representations •having the desired effect, the committee take this matter up and make appeal to head authorities re same. — Carried. On the motion of the secretary, it was resolved to request Mr Russell to furnish the committee with a quaiterly report on how the agricultural plot is progressing. The secretary stated that acting on the suggestion of an absent member, he wished to bring under the committee’s notice the necessity to inspect the swing posts. Resolved that inspec ion be made and that steps be taken to strengthen same. This being all tl e business, the meeting rose with a vote of thanks to the chair.
