Volunteer Notes.

Attention has been called by the Commandant in :t Geneial Orders,” to tlie fact that many of the volunteers are ignorant of orders and regulations which directly apply to them, and the necessity that they should be made acquainted with all regulations and orders that concern them. It is proposed by the Officer Commanding the Piako Mounted Rifles to issue a card shewing the principal regulations and duties stated. It may be mentioned that with regard to the parade called for 2ist inst., (Annual In-

Spare arms, accoutrements, etc., on issue, to be produced for inspection at the same time. All deficiencies will have to be paid for. The Defence Act provides the following penalty.—“ If any officer or volunteer fails to appear at the Annual- Inspection Parade, without reasonable written excuse, the 0.0, shall.order him to pay a fine —if an officer, £5, and if a volunteer, £l. If such fine is not paid within 7 days, to be lecovered as provided,” Any member not able to attend through sickness or any unavoidable reason, must send to the 0.0. Squadron— Capt. Clifford—the written reason; also forward to orderly room all arms and Government property for inspection, otherwise he is liable to the penalty, also to the cost of the property thus not inspected. It is absolutely necessary that every member attend this parade and that all arms and accoutrements be available for inspection.
