Bowling Club Social.

LARGE GATHERING. BRILLIANT SUCCESS, On Thursday evening last in the Public Hall, was held the Annual Social of the Te Aroha Bowling Club. Extra accommodation was provided in the shape of a large marquee erected on au adjoining section, but notwithstanding this, the capacity of the hall was taxed almost to its utmost limit. Great credit is due to those who b@ admirably displayed their artistic skill in the decoration of the Hall, which, we may safely say, never looked better on any previous occasion. The har monious display of lanterns eoupled with a tastefully arranged series of evergreens, gave to the room the softening effect required. Upwards of eighty couples assembled on the floor, but iu addition to these, quite a large number of spectators found their way to the gallery, from which coign of vantage they commanded a fine view of the proceedings, and had an excellent opportunity of admiring the tasteful creations with which the fair sex had adorned themselves for the occasion. The dreamy waltz, the boisterous lancers, were alike rendered by Mr Hemus’ string orchestra from Karangahake, in a strictly finished and spirited manner that lefb nothing to be desired, upwards of eighty couples joining in the dance to this exhilarating accompaniment. Mr Somers, officiating as master of cerem'inies, with the able assistance of Dr Kenny as supervisor by his thoughtfulness, impressed all as being the right man in the right place. Owing to the high wind which was blowing duiing ihe evening, • an unfortunate contretemps was brought about by the collapse of the marquee. Supper was however, served ou the stige, and all went merry as a marriage bell. Light refreshments were served duiing most of the evening. In spite of the somewhat threatening weather, a large number of country friends were present. During the interval, Miss Maingay and Miss Bosson each gave a choice waltz selection as extras. Ihe bighesr, admiration and sincerest thanks are justly due to the Committee for their most praiseworthy efforts in "rganising so successful an evening’s enjoyment as this has proved to be.
