The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report: — Horses: For medium draughts and working horses of a good stamp tliero has continued a •mod demand. Most of those brought forward during the week were of a lighter description. On Friday, at the Durham Yards, biddingfor light horses was slow, but for some of the heavier sorts brisk. We quote Heavydraughts, from £27 10s to £4l ; medium do., £lB as to £32; light harness, £6 10s to £18; hacks, £4 10s to £2O ; weeds, £2 10s to £B. At Pukekohe on Wednesday there was a large muster of stock of all descriptions. Competition was keen, more especially for dairy cows, of which over 200 weif sold. Daily cows sold at from £4 10s to £9 15s; quiet heifers, £4 to £8 5s ; empty cows, £1 10s to £4 2s 6d, calves, £1 Is to £2 4s. Beef, yarded numerously, sold well; steers, ip to £9; cows, £4 10s to £6 10s. At the clearing sale on Thursday at Mrs Kavanagh’s, Mauku, the attendance was good uid satisfactory prices were realised. On Saturday, at the clearing sale of live and dead stock, held on account of B. E. Cockerton, Brookby, there was a record attendance and extreme prices ruled. The dairy cows sold at from £4 15s to £9 17s 6d; heifers, £4 10s to £8 ss; farm mare, £4B ; brown colt £45; bay horse, £35; unbroken two-year-old colts, £lßlos to £22; dray, £l2; were some of the prices realised. On Tuesday, at the Newmarket Yards, dairy 1 cows were yarded in fair numbers. Prices for those at profit ranged at from £4 10s to £T ss; (by cows, £1 15s to £3 12s 6d;oalves, £1 2s to £2 12s. Fat cattle, yarded in full numbers, met a steady sale at scarcely last week’s rates. Steers sold up to 24s per 1001 b; cow, 19s to 235. Steers sold at fromLs lOsto LlO 12s 6d: cows, L4to L 8 15s. The quality of the beef was good, but no extra heavy weights were yarded. Sheep were yank'd in scarcely average numbers at Newmarket on Tuesday, and were in steady demand at improved prices. Wethers sold at from 18s 3d to Ll 8s 9d ; ewes, 15s 9d to Ll 5s Gd; hoggets, 8s 9d to Ll Is Gd. A draft of hoggets from 6. D. Smith's Papakum farm averaged Ll each. ? Pigs: Scarce. Porkers sold at from Ll 5s to Ll 17s Gd ; woaners, 7s Gd to 13s. We submitted a large catalogue of hides and skins on Tuesday, competition being keen for all lines at late rates. Bones, L 5. Cowtails, Is Gd dozen. Horsehair, Is 2d to Is Gd; mane, 9d to Is. Maize: In way short supply, and firm at 3s Id on wharf for wholesale linos. Oats } B” is worth 2s 2jd. Chuff : Worth L 5 on wharf. Potatoes: Firm atLB 10s on wharf. Cheese: Market firm. Factory, 40’s, 5Ad ; factory loaf, 8d: farmers’, 4|d. Butter: Market hasugaiu advanced. Best separator is worth lid.
WAIHQU STOCK SALE. Mcssm MoNieol and Co’s, monthly Stock ’ Sale was held at Wailiou stock yards yesterday. There was iui exceptionally good show of cattle, all the pens being well filled, and inn this line the demand was very fair, tuid some goinl prices obtained fur daily cattle. Ther©\ ') was little or no demand for ewes or wethers. > Horses wore not much in demand. The following are somo of the prices realised :—.Dairy cows at profit to L 9 ss, dry to L:i ‘2s tid, dairy heifers to L 6 ss.
