Owing to the unfavourable weather, only a few country patrons were present, and owing to the same cause, some of the musicians failed to put in an appearance. The musical programme was as follows: Song, “ Home, Dearie, Home,” Mrs Newsham; song, “Asleep in the Deep,” Mr Dent; duet, Beautiful Venice,” Mrs Wigg and Mrs Newsham ; song, “ Because I love you,” Mr Dent. A novel feature was introduced by Messrs Calder and Hirst who played two waltzes on mandolines, accompanied on the piano by Mrs East, and was much appreciated. The dance music was well rendered by Mrs Wigg, Mrs Willis, Miss Hare, Miss Jennings and Miss F. Pavitt. During the evening tempting refreshments were handed round by the ladies. , The stage was, for the time being, converted into a card room where merriment was continuous throughout the evening. Those who preferred dancing, indulged in the mazy waltz to their heart’s content, Mr F. Pavitt acting as M.C. in a very courteous manner At a late hour the happy gathering broke up, all being unanimous in their expressions of approval for the most enjoyable evening provided.
