The usual monthly meedng of Court Aroha, A.0.F., will be held this evening. he usual monthly social in connection with St David’s Presbyterian Church will be held in the Public Hall on Thursday evening uext. Messrs Hetherington and Co. annouuce that as they -are about to make considerable alterations to their premises, Ihey will continue their grert clearing cash sale for the next, four weeks. The stock must be cleared so as to make room foi; the builders. See Messrs Hetherington and Co.’a price list in this issue. The Glasgow Weekly Herald states that a medical authority attributes the increase of cancel to indulgence in confectionery and sugar. The many friends of Mrs J. McKee will regret to learn of the death of her mother, Mrs Geo. Wilson, which sad event took place at the Thames yesterday morning. The deceased lady ;was well-known in Te Aroha in the early days, where she resided with her husband, who was mining inspector for this district. Mrs Wilson was on a short \jisit to Te Aroha a few days ago.

McKenzie’s Mining Act Amendment Bill extends the definition “ miner ” in Section 9 of the Act of last year to mean every workman employed underground in a mine. The Te Aroha Brass. Band will visit Waihou this evening und will play an open air programme in front of the Hall. A collection will be taken up on behalf of the Band funds, All members are requested to meet at the band-room at 7.15- sharp and will leave in Thomas* brake at 7.30.
Our Rotorua correspondent states that there was a tremendous burst at Waimangu Geyser early on Saturday morning. It was seen distinctly from Rotorua.
