MAORI CARNIVAL.
Wellington, Yesterday. The Maori Carnival, in aid of the Patriotic Fund,, is expected to net a £IOOO- clear of expenses,. SUDDEN DEATH. Woodville, Yesterday. Mr John Chalmer, a pioneer settler, was found dead in his- garden yesterday. He was over 80 years of age, his wife predeceased, him by a couple of months. THE. GOVERNOR. Auckland, Last night. His Excellency the Governor Lord Ranfurly, the Countess of Ranfurly, and Capt Alexander,, returned from Dunedin to-day, arriving in the Manukau in the s.s GairL.ch at one o’clock. The vice-regal party came in to Auckland in a special carriage.
RESIGNATION OF DR T. HOPE. LEWIS.
Auckland. YesterdayDr T.. Hope Lewis, who has acted as port-health officer for Auckland for some considerable time, has forwarded bis resignation to the Government. Dr Lewis will be relieved in. about a month*
