Te Aroha AND Ohinemuri News TE AROHA TIMES & WAIORONPGOBBAI ADVOCATE. SATURDAY, MARCH 31, 1900

Ancon# the many improvements and additions to the Te Aroha. Hot Springs; that have been made by the Board is the appointment of a Hydropathic Specialist. Since the- advent of this gentleman in our micV his services have proved invalutble to* invalids suffering from rheumatism, gout, dyspepsia,, liver troubles,, and certain skin diseases. As showing the importance of the hydropathic treatment the following letters from two prominent Auckland doctors will give.; some idea of the value of hydropathy; Dr T. H>pe-Lewis says: — w l am-very much pleased to learn that your Board has made arrangements with Mr Jas. Muir to* superintend; the Packing ” at the Baths.. This mode of treatment, in conjunction'with the ordinary hot bathing,, both at To Aroha and Rotorua, has been- sadly neglected. With “ Packing ” properly carried out I look forward to even more-gratifying results and cures from your valuable springs than in the past, and one has little to complain of in that.” Dr W. R. writes :—I am* firmly of opinion that in order that a patient may fully obtain the benefits derivable from the-invaluable Medicinal Springs to be found either at Te Aroha or Rotorua, the systematic application of the principles of Hydropathy should be made use of. The simple bathing in these waters fur patients who are sufferers from Rheumatism r Gout,. Dyspepsia or certain Skin Diseases can never obtain as rapid or as satisfactory a result as when* accompanied by the skilled application of these waters by the means of “ Packing,” “ Douching,” and for Dyspepsia the “ Crisis Treatment, ,r by one who has been trained in the practical application of the principles of Hydropathy. Matlock, Harrogate,. Buxton and a host of other Hydropathic Institutions m the’ Old Country give- evidence to the valuable benefits derivable from the skilful application of these principles in certain diseases, by ordinary tmmedicated water;; but similar ap-

plications of the principles of Hydropathy in using these heavily charged mineral springs must produce a tenfold more satisfactory benefit. Having bad personal experience as a Medical man of the great value derivable at the above Institutions in the application of Hydropathy, and having many yearsago urgedlupon theTe Aroha Domain Board and the Government the absolute necessity (in order to give patients the full benefits derivable from these springs) to obtain the services of ©ne who has had a .practical training in their administration. I must congratulate the Te Aroha Domain Board in having been the first Sanatorium to make an effort to give the public the fullest benefits of the invaluable springsloeated in their midst—a course of action which will fill the. one ‘ Desideratum,’ to my mind, necessary in order to allow the public to thoroughly realise their value** I need hardly add that proper instructions m dieting,— and also, in. some cases, medical treatment, are essential to the permanency and rapidity bf the cure in the. diseas a above montioftied.”' With such testimony as the above concerning the benefitsto be derived from hydropathic treatment* the Domain, Board should assist the specialist in his work of adding to the value- of our baths as curative agents.
