TE AROHA PUBLIC SCHOOL.
PRESENTATION 03? PRIZES. An interesting ceremony took place- at the Public School on Thursday afternoon, the occasion being the presentation of the prizes given by the Chairman and members of the School Committee to the scholars for attendance, good conduct,, and general proficiency in general and special subjects. Rev Mr McFarland was invited byCommittee to make the presentations, and several members of the Committee were in attendance, also some parents. A commencement was made in the infant room, and the following are the names of the prize winners in this division r Infants—Norman- Biggs, Edna Baihe; Ist Primer —Frank Fawcett, Mavis. Ross; 2nd Primer—Willie Gavin, Olive Kearns; Standard I—Albert MsCord, Priscilla Atkins. An adjournment was then made to the large class r*om, where meanwhile all the scholars in the other standards had been assembled. In a short and appropriate address Mr McFarland pointed out to the 1 scholars the advantage of a good education, and the necessity for their making the best use of same, if they wished to prosper in life. He then presented the prizes;, the following being the last of prize winners : Standard II- Olive* Pati erson „ Thomas : Shannon.; Standard Mr—Alma Kearns, Samuel McCord;, Standard IV Jane Grattan, Linley Robson ;: Standard Y Lily Smallmnn, Andrew McKee ;: Standard Vl—Alvina Cromhfo, Ernest Mackie; Standard VII Bella Michael, Joseph ' Heathcote. Speecial Prizes (Spelling). Standard IV Florence Balcko ; Standard V—iMaggie Carmichael;: Standard VI and ' Vll—Ernest Mackie. Sewing.—Standard ll—Olive Pattcr*son ; Standard 111 Alma Kearns ; Standard IV—Alice- Salmon ; Standard! V—Len&pJfohaef; Standard Vl—Florence Taylor;. A few remarks having been made by Mossrs Gilchrist, Burton, and Hill, the proceedings closed with three cheers for everyone concerned. Mrs Burton afterwards entertained the committee, teachers, aud visitors, t@; afternoon tea.
