(From own Correspondent..) WESLEYAN CENTENARY. Auckland, Last night. A public meeting was held in Pittstreet Wesleyan Church in connection with a twentieth centuary fund, the speakers being, the Revs J. J. Lewis, Dunedin, W. Baumber Christchurch, and C. H. Garland, Wanganui. Mr Baumber said the promises amounted to between £12,000 and £15,0.00. BOARD OF EDUCATION. Auckland, Last night. The annual oleotion of three mem hers of the Board of Education took place to-day. Voting papers had been issued to 270 school committees and 2.15 votes were recorded The papers were op a *d in the presence of Mr R. Hobls (chairman) and members of the Board.. The result being as follows :—Wm Lambe (Papatoetoe) 125 ; John D. McKenzie (VVhangarei) 124; Norman A. McLeod (Dargaville) 119 ; J. R. Reid (Auckland) 106; Alfred Oldham (Auckland) 86 ; Jacob H. Wright (Pukekohe) 61. The first three are elected. DEATH OF MR HALCOMBE. New Pl'Si&outii, Yesterday. The death of Mr A. W. F. Halcombe aged 66, is announced.- He was formerly a well-known resident of the Fiolding district and lately of Urenui. He was provincial secretary of Wei lington from 1864 to 1870, and afterwards agent for the Manchester Special Settlement.

CHILD BURNT TO DEATH. Nelson, Yestorday. A eon of Mr Frank Cresswell, two or throe years of age, was burnt to death in a field at Richmond yesterday afternoon. The father was burning stubble and the child wandered to the flames, his clothes ignited and ho died on tho spot.
