LOYALTY Messrs Gavin and Newsharo have returned to that well-known, gold producing claim, the Loyalty, and it is 'probable they will be rewarded for their perseverance-. 1 WAIORONGOMAI BATTERY. | Owing to the- scarcity of water the battery at Waiorongomai has been ‘running lately with only five head of : stampers, but since the late rain enough water is obtainable to run the ten head. (THE HYFERPHORIC' PROCESS. WWh reference to the ‘ pq£r * appearing lin our last issue under the above heading, the Rev J. Campbell informs us ‘that though at the time of delivering, his lecture in Waihi his experiments . with local fluxes had not been entirely .successful, yet .-his subsequent efforts have been crowned with success ; and !had it not been for a severe mishap to the smelter by which it was rendered 'useless, he would have ere this treated a large parcel of concentrates. Howiever, he is next week trying a modified smelter in Ausciand, much ichettper than that at the works, and if the result is up to expectations, smelting will soon be-resumed here-if there ;is anything to smelt. Unfortunately the district does not promise an 'abundance of refractory ore of a payable grade ;: but if those owning properties- will bestir themselves and isupply it at the works where it will !be purchased, the works will soon be 'again in full swing. Everything has 'been done to place a perfect plant in this district, aud it will not be closed .down unless experience shows that payable ore is not available.
