WESLEYAN METHODIST CONFERENCE.
-•- ♦ THEtwenfy-seventh Annual’Conference ,of the "Wesleyan Methodist Church of N<‘w Zealand will commence sitting in .Pitt street Church, Auckland, to-mor- ,’ row evening. About one hundred and ? thirty-nine delegates, sixty-six of whom are ministers, are expected to- be present. The committee for stationing ministers will meet to-morrow morning at 10 a.m.,. and the first draft of sta ions will be read at the evening session.. There are no so-called ‘burning questions’ to be- discussed this :year, but no doubt, special attention will be given to the Century Fund, in connection with which a special demonstration is announced to take place on Monday evening next. Mr T. C. Allen r as feubstitue for Mr W. Tetley, attends the Conference as Bay representative of the Upper Thames Circuit. Rev S'. Griffith will also be in attendance, and" for part of the time his colleagues. Revs W. S. Bowie and W. Beckett, pis expected that the Rev J. S. Smalley, F.R.G.&, of Nelson, will be elected as President. Rev W. ;S. Bowie,, of Paeroa-, and possibly alsoRev W. Beckett, of Waihi, will", ft is expected, be removed, and great in terest will be felt in each of these places, in the work of the Stationing Committee.
• Seven candidates for the ministry ;are to be examined, including Mr W. It. Tuck, formerly of Cambridge and Paeroa- Four ministers, who have completed' their probation, will present themselves for ordination.. Amongst the public celebrations in connection with the Conference there is to be a harbour excursion and picnic at Lake Tatapuna on Saturday next, and on Wednesday next a grand musical festival will be held in the-Choral Hall, when the United Methodists Chorus of Auckland will render Handol’s magnificent oratoriat * Samson/ A converzatione in Pltt-street school-room takes place on the 9th inst., and on the T2th i a grand Missionary demonstration will be held, when amongst the speakers will be the world-famed Rev J. Hudson Taylor, so lo rg and honoured associated with the China Inland Mission. Amongst the ministers attending the Conference there will be the Rev T. A. Joughin, of Renburgh, and Rev W. J- Elliott, of Balclutha, the last-named being expected shortly to visit Te Aroha.
