WAITOA ROAD BOARD.
Tite ordinary meeting of the Waitoa Road Board was held at Morrinsvdle on Saturday. Pi esent:—Messrs Parmer, Aitkeu, Borrie, and Allen. In the absence of Mr Chepmell,. Mr Farmer occupied the chair. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed.
CoiTespondeuce re Timmins : —Mr Swarbrick reported that he had received rates amounting' to £2 12s lOd, and costs allowed Bs. Mr Swarbrick ’3 expenses amounted to£l 4s, then fore the Board had received 18s less than if rates had been paid \vi hout going to Court. Mr Ail ken thought the Clerk might take out summ nises in future, and so save legal expenses. At. this stage Mr Chepmell arrived and took the chair. The Engineer slated that the Mines Department appioved of the plans and ■specif! ations for draining ntle Aroha West; towards which theGfivernment are granting £l3O. Resolved that tenders be called for McKinley’s drain—he agreed to pay ha'f the cost that might be expended above the ‘ thirds.’ The drain to be Bft. wide and 4ft. deep. Tenders were received for the following works:
Pinko Road.—W. Pevroal, L2l ;0. McCabe, L2o ; no name (supposed to be'D. Bell), L 23 8s 6d ; W. Bellamy, Ll 7 : J. Shine, L 24 4s. Knight’s Road.—Young and party, L 9; M. Cronin, L 7 ; 0: McCabe, LlB Hough and Cairns, Ll 5. Baker’s Road.—Young and party, LSO ; McMekin, L 55 ; J. O’Brien, L 49 14s; 0. McCabe, L 49 ; J. Shine, L 73 11s 6d ; Hough and Cairns, LS9. Bradley’s Dram.—Young and party L 24 10s; W. G-. Batt, L2l 7s; James O’Crien, Lis 5s ;W. Carmichael and Wild, LJ3 8s 9d; W. Hyde, L 29 15s 0. McCabe, L 25 ; W. Bellamy, L4O 12s 6d ; J. Shine L 23 8a 9d ; Hough and Cairns, L2I ss. Mr Chepmell proposed, and Mr Alien seconded, that the tenders of W. Bellamy (Pinko Road) ; Mr Cronin (Knight’s Road); G McCabe (Baker’s Road); and Hough & Cairns (Bradley’s drain), be accepted. Carried.
Johnson’s Creek Ex'ension. Mr Farmer stated that £l7 10s had been promised towards this. Resolved that tenders bo called for the work. Mr Aitken drew attention to McGlashan’s road. The Engineer stated' that he would go over this road with Mr Aitken.
Mr Farmer stated that a bridge on the Waiorongomai read had collapsed Decided to get. if repaired.
Mr Allen drew attention to the road leading to the Railway Station at Morrinsville. Resolved that specifications bo prepared and tenders called for work.
Mr Farmer wished to get some planks for repairing bridges on the roads near Manawaru. Decided that permission bo given Mr Farmer to obtain planks as required.
Mr Aitken stated that the road under the Railway Bridge was very wet. Decided that the Engineer inspect this.
Mr Farmer thought a bos; should put in for water near Johnson’s Or. ok. Decided that the matter be a'tended
Pr oposed by Mr GTmpmcll, seconded bv Mr Aden, that the resolution t > be carried about reducing interest from 5 per cent to 4J- "per c-mt, b n advertised, so as to be brought before the Board at next meeting.
