PAEROA ITEMS.
Paeroa, Thursday. The Agricultural and Horticultural Society hold their Show on Wednesand Thursday, when there was a large at'endanee pres nt. Mr A. Bossons, of Te Aroha. being the chief prize winner in fruit; while Mr Scholium, of Morrinsville, carried off first prize in the La lies’ Jnmpimg competition, and Ladies’ Hack, with his bay mare Nea. During the progress of the Show Mr Edwin Edwards, secretary, was seized with an epileptic fi , which, owing to its soverenoss, caused mu'-h alarm. Drs Smith and Buekby were soon in affendanc-*, and applied their skill, restoring him to consciousness, whan lie was conveyed to his home. On latest enquiries Mr Edwards is progressing as well as can bo expected.
A somewhat serious accident happened this' afternoon, when a son of Mr D. Evans, had his foot badly injured by the overturning of a trap, which necessitated Dr Smith putting in about 14 stitches.
A trap driven by Mr Troughton, of Omahu. and containing beside s the driver Messrs Cato and Rogers, was capsized this morning, through the horse shying when crossing the bridge near Paeroa, andthecu-r and c mtents were thrown into a ditch. The occupants all escaped with slight bruises, though Mr Cato had a very narrow e-c ipe, tho cart almost rolling on him.
Yesterday evening one of the water mains burst near Mr Beattie’s, and the immense volume of water soon deluged the road. Mr O’Hara, turnc 'ck, at onee rode to the reservoir and turned off the wa*er. The broken main was soon replaced by a staff of w rkmen, and the water turned on as u ual.
