Presbyterian General Assembly.

Christchurch, Tuesday. At the Presbyterian General Assembly this morning the Chinese Mission re port stated that an Anti-opium League had been formed, and was doing good work. A good measure of success had attended the work of the Chinese catechists. The question of the appointment of a junior clerk was ordered to be sent down to the presbyteries for cons'deration, and to report a r the next Assembly. The Bible in schools report was.of the usual nature, and provoked little discussion. The Assembly affirmed its former position. A motion that the next General Assembly of the Church be held in Wanganui was carried unanimously. The report of the Committee for Hjunn Book in Pubbc Schools was read and adopted. The Committee on Religion and Morals wrote that on account of the indifference exhibited on the part of the sessions, they had decided to resign Their resignation was accepted with regret, and a new committee was appoinVed. ?Fhe Rev. Wood moved that the Right Rev. the Moderator, the Rev Alexander Grant, (Flan ko’s Baj’), and Mr Andrew Bell (Au kland, elder) be a deputation to represent the General Assembly at the next meeting of the Synod of Otago and Southland. The motion was carried. The report on sta’istics for 1900 was adopted. Several correspondents were appointed to supply Presbyterian matter for The Outlook, o’h r r repor s were read and adopted and the session closed with the usual vole of thanks.
