BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Council was held in the Council Chambers last evening. Present : His Worship the Mayor (Mr E. Gallagher) in the chair, Crs Edwards, Wallace, Bygrave, Mills, and O’Meagher. Minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed.

Extension of Time. —From F Kearns making application for three weeks extension of time to complete his contract,. No. 19, construction of Bridge in Whitaker-street..

It was resolved on, the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr Edwards, that extension be granted till 21st March. Lead for Water-works. —In reply to a letter from Council re quality of lead supplied for water-works,. Burns and Co., wrote enclosing credit note, au making the total concession £3 5s Gd. It was decided to accept allowance made.

Excursion to Rotorua. —The following letter, was received by tho M<j r or dated. 1 9th Feb., 1900 : We the undersigned, members of the Committee formed fbr tlie purpose of ; arranging a train ' excursion to Rotorua, for the Kcliool Children, would respectfully. beg of you-in your official-capacity, to declare a public holiday for Thursday, 22nd Feb. Draining Lagoon.*- Cr Wallace drew attention to the filthy state of the lagoon behind the Court-house, and thought some steps should be taken to have ho present stato of affairs altered.—lt was decided that the|Works report on the mat*er at next meeting.
