It is the intention of the railway, department to run an excursion, at the usual Id and 2d a mile x-ate, from-Thames and intermediate stations to Hamilton on Saturday, 10th March (Hamilton Races) On Saturday, 10th March, the usual 2.25 p.m train from Frankton to Thames, will not leave Frankton till 5 10 p.m.; Kirikiiirea, 6.5 ; Te Aroha, 7.45; Paeroa, 6.25 ; arriving Thames 9.40 p.m, Messrs Tonson-Garlick, of ‘ tho People’s’ furnishing warehouse, have a x-o-placo advertisement in this issue, giving, a few of the prices at which their goods are selling.
The members of the Te Arolia Brass Band accompany the School* excursion to Rotorua to-day, and will doubtless add greatly to the enjoyment of the day's* outing.The attention-of builders is drawn to an advertisement calling tenders for the erection of a fbur-roomed house for Mr P. Morality. Tenders close on Wednesday 28th inst.
Work at the Shaftesbury bridge is progressing rapidly. The contractors have the job well in. hand.
The last number of “The Golden Penny,” a popular weekly issued by the proprietors of “ The London Graphic,” is a valuable production, and contains some excellent leading bearing on- the present Boer war, with illustrations.-
What with, water-works-, Whitaker street bridge, extension of lawn in Domain, etc., our City Fathers are kept busy just now.
One of the residents of Te - Aroha West was somewhat distressed a few days ago on entering the paddock in which liis favorite steed was accustomed to graze to find the animal had done tho disappearing trick.. Yesterday, however, the animal was returned to the paddock by the person who had “borrowed ” it. The owner is now anxious to have an interview with the horse-fancier..
Those who had the privilege of listening to the lecture delivered by the Rev C. H. Garland, in the Wesleyan Church, on Tuesday evening, were well repaid for their presence. The re /. gentleman was attentively listened to, the subject being “ The dying Century or imperialism.” Mr H. Lawn, occupied the rhair, and during the evening Miss Dazeley, of Tasmania, rendered two solos in a very effecting manner.' A similar address was given at Te Aroha West last evening*
