TRANSVAAL WAR FUND.

A meeting of the Committee was field in the Domain office on Tuesday night, when there were present, His Worship the Mayor (in the chair) and Messrs Mills, Pavitt, Wright, Hirst, Burton, CromVie and Hill (secretary). The Secretary reported the gross takings on Saturday night from all sources to be £4l 9s 7d, out of which certain expenses would require to be met, principally freight on articles procured from town. As several of the tradespeople had supplied sundry articles, and had given the Committee a clear receipt for same, it was decided to interview the others with a view to giving them an opportunity to do likewise if they feel inclined. It was announced that the Domain Board had decided to purchase the Chinese lanterns for use in the Domain on future occasions.

It was decided to lodge the money in 'he Bank of New Zealand, Paeroa, in the names of the Mayor and the Treasurer.

The advisability of canvassing the town for subscriptions was then dis cussed, and it was ultimately decided t' ; defer action in this matter pending ? 1 ©■ recovery of the Treasurer (Mr Gil-jurist), in whose hands the matter was hit- nt a previous meeting.
