A movement is on foot to supply (he missing link between school cadets and volunteers corps -by the formation of cadet corps of ex-school boys, whose services will be offered to tbe Government.

ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.

Blenheim, Yesterday.

Helena Silvins, aged 17, daughter of Mr Harry Silvins, attempted suicide by throwing herself over the Opawa railway bridge. She was rescued and handed over to her father.

The inward ’Frisco mail steamer, Moana, arrived from San Francisco via Ports, at 5.45 a.m. to-day, berthing at tho wharf after by tbe health officer. She made a good run down of 18 days 9 hours 38 mins, fine weather being experienced for the greater pirt of the voyage. The bubonic plague, which was raging at Honolulu in the Chinese quarter, was when the Moana left on the Ist inst., supposed to bo stamped out no fresh cases having been reported for four days.
