DEATH FROM SCALDING

Auckland, La3t night

An inquest was held at the hospital to-day before Mi H. W. Brabant, S.M. (coroner) and jury of six, to euquiro into the death of Samuel Martin, boiler man, who died last week from the results of scalding. The jury brought in a verdict to the effect that deceased came by his death through scalding at the Western Springs pumping station, and the accident was caused by the incompetence of the waterworks engineer, Alex. Gibson.

ANNUAL PICNIC Paep.oa, Yesterday.

The united Sunday Schools annual picnic took piece here on Monday, and was a great success. One of the Northern Company’s boats was chartered and conveyed the children, their parents, and teachers on to a picnic ground up the Waihou river, where they enjoyed themselves immensely. During the afternoon a serious accident happened to a boy named Eric EvaDS, who fell on a stump, which cut him rather severely under the armpit. He was sent back to Paeroa and attended to by Dr Buckby, who found it necessary to put ten stitches in the wound.

BANKRUPTCY. Auckland, Yesterday

An adjourned meeting of Charles Grant Daley, bankrupt, was held this afternoon at the office of the Official Assignee. The total number of claims put in are 94, amounting to the sum of £36,180 8s 4d. Stock has been taken at the various business places, with the following (total) result: £22,924 2s 6d.
