The amount of local subscriptions towards the Transvaal Patriotic Fund is gradually increasing. The Masonic brethren in this district have donated a sum of £5 ss; and at the close of the Volunteer parade' on Thursday evening the Te Aroha Rifles unanimously granted a sum of five guineas towards the fund. Mails for South Africa, port of call not yet decided, per Claverdon, close at Lyttelton at 8 p.m on Saturday, 3rd February. Mr Linnett informs us that he is highly pleased with the United In surance- Company for their prompt settlement of a claim sent in the other day. A cheque for the full amount claimed came by return of post. It having come *to our knowledge that certain children in Te Aroha have been and'are catching trout in what is known asLipsey’s creek, we warn them that they fcro liable to a heavy fine, the fish being under regulation size. Furthermore no fishing licenses have been issued to Te Aroha residents, so no one is entilted to fish for trout. Dr Buckby, of Paeroa, announces that he will attend patients in Te Aroha, immediately on receipt of telegram or message. The plans for the subdivision of the Fencourt Estate, near Cambridge, are in a forward state. The area of this property is about 7500 acres, and it will he subdivided into 28 lots, ranging from 50 acres to 800 acres.
