(From own Correspondent.) MINISTER OF MINES. Wellington, Yesterday. MrMcGowan will meet Ministers to day to dhouss the question of the portfolio to Minister of Mines. V SHUNTER KILLED. Christchurch, Yesterday. A railway shunter named Peter Paterson, aged about 50, was killed on Wednesday night at Christchurch railway station while shunting brioks. He ha*d ran to the front of a moving truck to apply the brake, when it is supposed he tripped over the rails and the front wheel passed over his groin. The truck was derailed with the shock The man was picked up immediately, but died in a few miuutes. He leaves a wife and family of eight children.
SHOOTING ACCIDENT. Mangaweka, Yesterday. A man named McCouville, aged 45," was found shot dead. His body was on one side of a fence and his gun on the other side. It is presumed death was accidental. FATAL FIRE. Dunedin, Yesterday. A two-roomed cottage at the landslip, Waikaea, owned and occupied by Mrs McKinnon, was destroyed by fire on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs McKinnon was badly burued about the arms and the body, and succumbed today to her injuries. The place was uninsured.
DEATH OF LIEUT-COL MURRAY Auckland, Yesterday. Very deep regret was expressed in town to-day when it became known that Lieut-Col T. L. Murray, general manager of the Bank of New Zealand in Auckland, was dead. Deceased was of a genial nature and was a very popular aud highly respected citizen and a valuable servant of the Bank of Nqw Zealand. He was associated with various societies of a philanthropies 1 nature, having been ever of a charitable and generous disposition.
