RABBIT TRADE. London, January 18. A consignment of rabbits by the Medic sold at Manchester to complete satisfaction. A large trade in colonial rabbits at Manchester is predicted. BUSH FIRES. Melbourne, Yesterday. Bush fires are again raging in the country, many thousands of acres of grass have been destroyed. At Kilmore one thousand tons of firewood, and several houses wore burnt, THE BUBONIC PLAGUE Sydney, January 19. Private letters from Noumea speak of stringent measures being taken to stamp out the plague. Rats are held chiefiy responsible for the spread of the disease. Over two hundred rodents were found in one consignment of rice and were killed and 250 tons of rice were thrown into the sea. RUSSIA AND JAPAN. Sydney, January 19. The Hongkong correspondent of the Daily Telegraph states Japan is restless and keeping a sharp watch on the movements of Russians. Japan is quite ready to invade Eastern Sibera and Manchuria, and will not put up with any under encroachments in Corea. Japan will strike sharply and decisively, knowing with her it will be practically a life and death struggle.
