TRANSVAAL WAR FUND.
(To the Editor). Sib. —I was pleased to see from youi columns in last issue, that we have a lady in our midst who is in a position to offer £lO to this fund. lam sorry, however, that the offer has been made conditional on members of the Committee giving £5 each. I do not think many of them are in a position to do that, and it seems a pity that the fund should be deprived of a handsome addition because a section of the people cannot afford to give the amount stated. When the town is properly canvassed, as it will be, ! I feel certain everyone, including the members of the Committee, will do their best, and no one can do more, except they do as the Committee is doing, give time and labour,. to arranging the matter. I hope your correspondent will withdraw her condition, and forward the donation above mentioned, leaving it to others to give as their funds will permit. A £lO donation will be an incentive—if that were needed—-to .othors, and with everyone giving freely there is no reason why the total raised, should not be a credit to Te Aroha and district.—l am, etc., Wm. Hill.
